DADU, Dec 15: Wheat stock in at food department godowns in the district has exhausted, leading to closure of 15 flour mills and a rise in flour price.

Flour mills in Dadu, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Piaro Goth, Mehar, Johi and Sehwan talukas remained closed due to non-availability of wheat.

On Wednesday, shopkeepers and chakki owners sold flour for Rs16 per kilogramme against the fixed price of Rs12. Residents and owners of the affected flour mills have demanded that the Sindh government should provide wheat to the district to end the flour crisis.

Talking to this correspondent, in charges of district food godowns said traders of Punjab, Karachi and Balochistan had purchased wheat from Dadu which had led to the crisis in the district.

DRAINAGE: A large number of people held a protest demonstration here on Wednesday against the collapse of drainage, water supply and sanitation systems in the Dadu town. They were led by Mohammad Urs Solangi, Ali Akbar and Ghulam Rasool.

The residents complained that drainage, water supply and sanitation systems had failed in Shahani Mohalla, Gharibabad, Soorajabad and union council 1, II and III. They regretted that they had complained to the taluka municipal administration but no action had been taken to improve the systems.

DEMONSTRATION: Activists of the Pakistan Muslim League youth wing held a demonstration here on Wednesday to protest against dens run by criminals in different towns of the district. Led by Sindh PML youth wing vice-president Liaquat Ali Panhwar and district president Khalil Ahmad Ghalloo, they appealed to the DPO to take action against the dens.

MEETING: The annual meeting of the Sindh People's Students Federation was held at the district party office on Wednesday.SPSF chairman Amir Ali Ari presided over the meeting. PPP MNA Rafiq Ahmad Jamali and SPSF organizer Syed Ghaus Ali Shah attended the meeting.
