DADU, Nov 25: The historic mosque, the tomb of King Yar Mohammad Kalhoro, graveyard of the Kalhoro period and other historic monuments in Khudabad are crumbling as the archaeology department has failed to make any effort to preserve them.
This was observed by speakers at a seminar entitled "Protect historic places of Khudabad" held in Khudabad near here on Wednesday under the aegis of the local chapter of the Sindh Graduates Association. The speakers pointed out that the historic monuments belonged to the 18th century when the Kalhoro king had made Khudabad capital of Sindh.
SGA representative Mohammad Ibrahim Bhand recalled that the Kalhoro dynasty had introduced irrigation system and boosted education and town planning in Sindh. Mohammad Ibrahim Panhwar deplored that successive governments had failed to protect historic heritage of the Kalhoro period.
Muhammad Roshan Mangi, Nazeer Ahmed Bhand, Ashraf Leghari, Aijaz Qureshi, Karam Illahi Channa, Ali Hassan Brohi, Abdul Rehman Siyal, Taj Mohammad Baloch and others also spoke on the occasion.
HYDERABAD: A division bench of the Sindh High Court on Thursday granted time to Sindh and district government officials including the district nazim and DCO Dadu to file their comments on a petition filed by Sajjad Ali Shah after additional advocate-general Masood A. Noorani argued before the court that the petitioner and the respondent taluka nazim were hand in glove in the matter.
He pleaded that a petition on identical points was earlier filed by Taluka Nazim Zafar Ali Shah but it was withdrawn. Mr Noorani said that the petition filed by Sajjad Ali Shah could not be maintained as all points mentioned in it were conceded by the taluka nazim in his comments filed before the division bench.
He told the court that the petitioner was not an aggrieved party in the matter whereas representations of the taluka nazim had been interpreted to some extent by the SLGO.
In his comments, the taluka nazim said contents of paragraph five and six of the petition were admitted by him because the Taluka Municipal Administration was facing great difficulties in providing basic amenities to the inhabitants of the Mehar Taluka.
He said that he had communicated several letters to high-ups to direct the district government to provide funds for executing water supply and drainage schemes as per the SLGO 2001 but no response was received from them.
He pointed out that the district government was required to distribute such funds as per population of each taluka. He maintained that chief executive engineer could not be given powers of drawing and disbursing officer as assigned by the government in violation of the SLGO.
Referring to the district advisory committee, he said that it was aimed at solving grievances of people and for approval of schemes when called by the district nazim or any of its two members and added that he had repeatedly requested for holding the meeting.
He said he could not be held responsible for delaying in convening the meeting. He said he had taken efforts to implement rules and regulations but other respondents had no intention to implement the SLGO 2001. The petitioner, Sajjad Ali Shah, prayed the court to direct the respondents to comply with the provision of the SLGO in letter and spirit.
