RAWALPINDI, Nov 19: The Airport Security Force (ASF) on Friday foiled an attempt to smuggle 2.4kg heroin to Canada and arrested a passenger on charges of drug trafficking.

The authorities said the drugs were seized after the ASF staff spotted a passenger, wearing long shoes, acting suspiciously while check-in for PK-781 flight for Toronto was in progress.

The man, identified by the ASF as Nooruddin Prem Chandr, holding a Canadian passport was stopped for search, which led to the seizure of heroin. The drugs had been concealed in the sole of shoes, inside his underpants and also wrapped around his collar.

According to the ASF, the accused also offered $10,000 to the staff for his release, however, he was taken into custody and handed over to the Anti-Narcotics Force.

Meanwhile, one person was killed while 18 others were injured after a bus over turned in G-10 while avoiding a car on Friday. Police said the bus (PE-4525) was heading towards Pak Secretariat when its driver lost control of the vehicle.

As a result, one of the passengers, who is yet to be identified, was killed on the spot while 18 others including two women and four children were injured. The injured trapped in the wreckage were pulled out and shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences. According to hospital authorities, 15 people were brought to Pims. Except for two persons, the rest had been discharged after first aid.
