DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 15: Chief Minister Akram Durrani has said that 20 new dams would be constructed in the NWFP and for agricultural revolution work on projects like lift canal and Tank Zam would soon begin.

This was stated by the chief minister while addressing the Mufti Mehmood Conference here on Friday. He advocated building more water reservoirs to meet the water needs.

He said: "New dams are the need of the time." The work on Tank Zam and lift canal would begin soon. Mr Durrani said projects like that of the lift canal and Tank Zam would usher in the new era of economic progress and prosperity especially in Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts.

The chief minister announced to upgrade Paroa sub-division to tehsil level. He said gas project had been approved by the NWFP government and Dera Ismail Khan and Tank districts would get the gas supply soon.

Lauding the role played by Mufti Mehmood for the development of the area, Mr Durrani said that he was a great leader and his services for the people of the area would always be remembered. The chief minister announced the establishment of Mufti Mehmood Academy, English Medium Cadet School and Mufti Mehmood Library in the Commissioner's House. -APP
