KARACHI: Two die in road accidents

KARACHI, Oct 1: Two men died and three others, including Sindh advocate-general, were injured in separate road accidents on Friday.

Police said that Ali Gul, 30, was crossing the main road in Husainabad No 10, Orangi Town when a speeding truck knocked him down. He was taken to the nearby private hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Later, police shifted his body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy examination. In Ittehad town, a pushcart operator died when a speeding truck ran over him. According to police, Naveed Malik, 28, was run over by a speeding truck in Mochko police limits. He was taken to the nearby Murshid Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Police claimed to have arrested the errant driver Kamran and impounded the truck. Sindh advocate-general Anwer Mansoor, his gunman and driver were injured in an accident on Super Highway on Friday.

Police said that Mr Mansoor was going in his car (GS-1715) along with his driver Shah Jehan and gunman Akhlaq Ahmed when the car over turned as its tyre burst. The accident occurred near Mannan petrol pump, they said. The wounded men were taken to the Baqai Hospital, where they were provided treatment. The driver, Shah Jehan, was stated to be in serious condition.

SUICIDE: A girl committed suicide in Malir Cantonment late on Thursday night. Police said that Nazia, 20, resorted to self-immolation by sprinkling inflammable liquid and setting herself on fire inside her house, located in Quetta Lane, Malir Cantt. The wounded girl was admitted to the burns ward of Civil Hospital. She succumbed to her burns on Friday.
