LARKANA, Sept 29: The local chapter of the People's Party Parliamentarians on Wednesday condemned the government for its failure to check price spiral and growing lawlessness.

The party, which met here with PPP Larkana president Aftab Ahmed Bhutto in the chair, criticized the government for increase in gas cylinder price and expressed concern over rising unemployment which, it said, had created a social imbalance in the society.

The meeting decided to activate party units and maintained that workers would be kept abreast of changing global and local political situation by holding frequent meetings of study circles. The meeting was attended among others by MNA Anwar Bhutto, who later spoke at a corner meeting and expressed confidence in the leadership of Benazir Bhutto.

DEMO: Rice mill workers in Ratodero continued their protest on Wednesday against the indifferent attitude of the officials of the Employees of Old Age Benefit Institution.

A procession was taken out from the Shahbaz Rice Mill which was attended by workers of other organizations. Led by Manzoor Kumbhar, general secretary of mill workers, labourers marched through main streets of the town and chanted slogans against officials.

They staged a sit-in at the main bus terminal and held a demonstration in front of the local press club. Speaking on the occasion, labour leaders claimed that the EOBI officials were not paying attention to the cases of workers who were nearing retirement.

They alleged that documents of seven workers submitted with regional officers Qayyum Soomro and Nangraj had gone missing, while the workers were near retirement. The labour leaders said that the delay in finalizing the cases of pensioners and retired workers had created anxiety in their families.

Workers would stage a sit-in in front of the regional office of the EOBI Sukkur if the cases were not finalized within 10 days, they said. Those who spoke on the occasion included Mithal Ghanghro, Abdul Wahab Shaikh, Imam Bakhsh Larik and others.
