FAISALABAD, Sept 3: The Saddar tehsil has expressed concern over the performance of the functionaries of the education department and police, calling for immediate intervention of Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to take stock of the situation.

At a session held here at the TMA City Complex on Friday, the councillors said almost all the schools in rural areas of the tehsil were in a shambles due to lack of interest by the officials concerned.

They claimed that the educational reforms announced by the chief minister were not being implemented in the rural areas, as the buildings of all the schools had become dangerous. Besides, there was an acute shortage of staff in these institutions.

They demanded of the chief minister to pay a surprise visit to the schools in the rural areas, especially those in the limits of the Saddar tehsil, to see the plight of the students.

The councillors demanded that the Saddar SP and the district police officer took action against the Saddar police station SHO, who had allegedly insulted the elected members of the TMA.

Taking up another item on the agenda, the councillors claimed that the rural health centres had become 'ghost houses' due to unavailability of doctors and other staff. They said Rs10 was being charged for vaccination of each child in violation of the government's instructions that the service should be available free of cost.

INJURE: Two robbers injured a woman and her minor daughter during a strike at their house at Shalimar Park in Batala Colony police station precinct on Thursday night. Reports said two armed men entered a house at Shalimar Park and bagged thousands of rupees in cash and valuables at gunpoint.
