SUKKUR: Jirga to resolve dispute

Published July 30, 2004

SUKKUR, July 29: A high-level jirga, under official umbrella, will be held on Aug 2 in Karachi to resolve the dispute between warring Mahar, Almani and Korai tribes of the Ghotki district.

Ghotki District Nazim Sardar Ali Gohar Mahar hinted at holding the jirga while talking to journalists in Ghotki on Thursday. It was learnt that Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim had also been taken into confidence in this regard as the district nazim had met him two days back and apprised him of the situation.

Earlier, a jirga was scheduled to be held in Dera Allah Yar, Balochistan, at the residence of Sardar Allah Yar Khan, two months back but due to intervention of then Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, the jirga was cancelled as the Sindh High Court had banned the holding of jirgas. The dispute between the tribes had been caused by the marriage of Shaista Almani and Balkhsher Mahar.
