DADU, July 27: Eight children, most of them girls, died of typhoid, measles and gastroenteritis in the Jan Mohammad Rodhnani village of Kachho area near the Johi town on Monday and Tuesday.

Arbab Khatoon 8, daughter of Mohammad Azam Rodhnani; Kaz Bano, 3, daughter of Mohammad Azeem; Sajida, 4, daughter of Rahim Khan; and Safooran, 8, daughter of Ahmed Khan; died of typhoid on Monday.

Mahram, 3, son of Ali Nawaz; and Zamiran, 5, daughter of Azizullah; died of gastroenteritis and Niamat, 3, daughter of Rahmatullah Chhutto, and Somri, 2, daughter of Mohammad Alam Mari; died of measles on Tuesday.

Mohammad Azam told journalists that the villagers were very poor and they had no money to purchase medicines and added that their village lacked road and transport facilities to take patients to nearest hospitals.

Dr Aziz Ahmed Leghari, of a health centre run by an NGO in Sawaro, said that about 50 children in the village were infected by different diseases. He said that two of the children belonged to nomad families who had camped near the affected village some two days back. District Officer (health) Dr Abdul Rasheed claimed that after receiving information, a team of doctors had been sent to the affected village on Tuesday.
