NAWABSHAH, July 19: A session of the district council was held here on Monday at the Pir Qurban Ali Hall, under the chairmanship of convener Khalid Hussain Channa, to discuss law and order, education and other affairs of the district.

Interestingly, the education EDO, works DO, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company superintending engineer and executive engineers of the Nusrat and Dad irrigation divisions remained absent despite being asked in advance to brief on the working of their respective departments.

Nazim Riaz Zardari said that the education EDO should be bound to attend council sessions and also to reopen schools lying closed for quite some time, and suggested that bodies should be formed to monitor law and order besides the irrigation department as the Rangers had failed to improve the water situation.

Thatt union council nazim Hanif Chandio said that law and order in the district was unsatisfactory with robbery and theft cases on the rise, while Nazim Ghulam Shah Leghari alleged that thefts were planned in police posts of Sakrand.

Nazim Ghulam Mustafa Soomro said that outlaws openly looted people and alleged that even if they were caught and handed over to law enforcers, the bandits were released by them.

Nazim Abdul Sattar Qureshi said that garbage dumps could be seen accumulating at every other place in the town. In response, District Nazim Faryal Talpur said that she had directed the taluka municipal administration to improve it without fail.

PROTEST: Members of the Disabled Welfare Association, Nawabshah staged a sit-in outside the press club here on Monday to protest against Education EDO Rafiq Ahmed Siddiqui. They alleged that the EDO, ignoring merit and quota for the disabled, had issued job offer letters to his favourites.
