KARACHI, July 2: An appellate bench of the Sindh High Court, comprising Justice Musheer Alam and Justice Muhammad Sadiq Leghari, on Friday adjourned the hearing of appeals filed by Mohammad Ajmal alias Akram Lahori , Tassaduq, Azam and Atta to a date to be fixed later by the office of the court.

The appellant preferred the appeals challenging their conviction and sentence in Imambargah Ali Al-Murtaza carnage case. Six persons offering Maghreb prayers died in the incident of October 2001 in the jurisdiction of PS Mehmoodabad.

When the appeals came up for hearing, M.R.Syed, counsel for appellants, was not present. As AAG and Sarfraz Khan Tanoli, advocate, counsel for complainants did not object, the bench put off hearing.

Atta and Azam were sentenced to death in the case while Akram Lahori and Tassaduq were sentenced to serve life terms in the case. The state also filed an appeal seeking enhancement of life terms unto death awarded to Lahori and Tassaduq. -APP
