KARACHI, June 24: Police formally charged on Thursday the activists of a militant outfit, Jundullah, arrested in cases pertaining to attack on corps commander's motorcade , law-enforcers' killing, blasts at Pak-American Cultural Centre, Pakistan Bible Society, Marina Club, besides other killing cases.
The accused, Ataur Rehman, alias Ibrahim, Shahzad Ahmed Bajwa, Uzair Ahmed, Shoib Siddiqui, Danish Inam, Najeebullah and Shahzad Mukhtar alias Talha, were produced before Judge Arshad Noor Khan of Anti-Terrorism Court, Karachi, for obtaining physical remands in the said cases.
The judge remanded the accused in custody till July 3. The court ordered the police to produce them on the next hearing. The accused, however, did not complain about any maltreatment.
The police said that the accused, during interrogation, admitted their involvement in the bomb blasts at the PACC, Marina Club, Pakistan Bible Society, besides policemen's killings.
According to police papers, Najeebullah, Danish, Shoaib, Uzair Ahmed, Ataur Rehman, Shahzad Bajwa engineered two car bomb blasts near the PACC gate at Fatima Jinnah Road on May 26, 2004, injuring 37 people, including police personnel and media men.
Ata, Shahzad Bajwa and Shahzad Mukhtar have also been charged with throwing a hand-grenade in front of the Pakistan Bible Society in Saddar area, and planting a bomb in a Suzuki hi-roof on January 15, 2004. Thirteen policemen, including a DSP and SP, were injured in this attack.
Ataur Rehman, Shahzad Bajwa, Uzair Ahmed and Danish were booked by Darakshan police in a car bomb blast in the parking area of Marina Club on April 10, 2004. One man was killed, while nine others injured in the said blast.
Police also accused Shahzad Bajwa, Uzair Ahmed, Ataur Rehman, Sohaib and Najeebullah of killing two policemen Shukat Ali and Nawab Ali in Saudabad area on June 24, 2003.
Besides, Ataur Rehman and Shahzad Bajwa were booked by Aziz Bhatti police on charges of killing two persons, Tariq Javed Masih and Ishaq Masih, on May 18, 2004, and killing of one Chudhary Asif in the limits of Sharae Faisal police on January 25, 2004. -PPI
