SUKKUR, June 21: A major fault has developed in the Guddu thermal power station, causing power disruption in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Daharki, Kashmor and other parts of the interior of Sindh.
The executive engineer, Hesco, Sukkur, Zafar Nadeem, said officials of the power house had informed him that it would take at least two days to repair the fault. A three-hour load-shedding has been announced in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Kashmor, Daharki and other areas till the fault in the power station is removed.
JIRGA: Disappointment is prevailing among residents of Ghotki district after postponement of a jirga which was scheduled to be held in Rojhan Jamali on Monday. The jirga was to be held to resolve a dispute among the Almani, Korai and Mahar tribes after the love marriage of Shaista Almani and Balkhsher Mahar.
Ghulam Rasool Korai, an elder of the Korai tribe, told newsmen that they had hoped that after the jirga, they would get rid of bloody clashes. However, he said, due to postponement of the jirga, the tribesmen had become disappointed and again taken positions against each other.
A leader of the Shehri Ittehad, Altaf Kalwar, expressing disappointment over the postponement of the jirga, appealed to the tribal chieftains to hold a jirga at an early date to resolve the dispute.
PALIJO: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has condemned the government support for jirgas, which, he said are not part of Sindh culture. Speaking to participants of a rally staged at the Clock Tower here on Sunday against the water shortage and tribal feuds in Sindh, he alleged that jirgas were being sponsored by feudal lords due to their own vested interests.
He said that bandits and tribal feuds were creation of the government to deviate the people of Sindh from their rights. He said that the people of Sindh would not let the establishment or Punjab to occupy the Indus river.
"We will sacrifice our lives to defend a single drop of water" he said. Mr Palijo alleged that the establishment was involved in the water shortage in Sindh to pave a way for the construction of Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal.
He said that there was no democracy in the country and the people had been made fool in the name of democracy. He said that the rulers were safeguarding US interests and looting national exchequer.
Mr Palijo said that the Sindh government was squarely responsible for the poor law and order in Karachi. He said that it was established after purchasing some MPAs and installing a wanted man as a governor.
KILLED: A man was gunned down by another over a matrimonial dispute in Thehri, Khairpur district, on Monday. As Abdul Jabbar Memon was going to a mosque, Aijaz Ahmed allegedly shot him dead and fled. Later, police arrested the accused and recovered a TT pistol from his possession. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
