DERA GHAZI KHAN, April 23: The district government has failed to crack down on the illegal sale points of petrol in several populous areas here.

Reports said District Nazim Jamal Leghari (who is currently on a leave) had permitted the establishment of mini-petrol pumps in small shops in the congested areas in violation of the petroleum act. The DCO also failed to check the illegal sale.

Civil Defence Officer Khadim Husain told Dawn on Friday that these sale points were authorized to store only 60 gallons of petrol, but the owners had converted these into mini-petrol pumps with the connivance of the local administration officials.

He said the DCO had sought report of illegal mini-petrol pumps from the department on the complaint of a petrol pump association, but it had yet to respond to that.

There was also a lack of coordination between police, DCO and the civil defence department, he said, adding he had prepared cases against illegal sale points, but police was not cooperating with him in this regard.

At least one-kanal tract is required for the establishment of a petrol pump. There are six mini-petrol pumps established in small shops in the district's congested areas.
