SAHIWAL, April 13: On the orders of the district and sessions judge, a case was registered on Tuesday against a former Grain Market SHO, two sub-inspectors and four constables for torturing and keeping a man in illegal custody.

Zahoor of Chak 132/9-L was picked up allegedly by then Grain Market SHO Mohammad Younas, SIs Zahoor Ahmad Piracha and Mohammad Islam and four constables from his house on May 2, 2003. They kept the man in the lockup unlawfully and subjected him to torture.

Zahoor's mother Faizan moved the court, and a judicial magistrate was directed to probe into the matter. The inquiry established charges against the police officials at which the court ordered registration of a case against them.

HANGED: A condemned prisoner was hanged in the Central Jail here on Tuesday morning, while the execution of two others was deferred for a month on the orders of the president.

Zaman Shah had killed one Sabir Shah on Oct 30, 1994, and the Okara sessions court awarded him death sentence on Nov 26, 1995, which was upheld by the high court. His appeals were also rejected by the apex court and the president.

Meanwhile, the execution of Dossa and Nasir who were also scheduled to be hanged on Tuesday has been deferred for one month for a reconciliation with the relatives of Imam Ali and Mohammad Ali whom they had killed on Sept 27, 1990. They were awarded death sentence by the Okara sessions court on Feb 2, 1992.
