SHEIKHUPURA, April 4: The price control committee formed to check price hike has failed to deliver. This was alleged by a group of people who visited the local press club to apprise mediamen of their grievances regarding the uncontrolled price hike.

Residents of various union councils blamed that the committee, headed by the DCO and comprising 14 Nazims of union councils and representatives of different trade associations, had never realized its responsibilities.

They further alleged that the DCO had not convened a meeting to review the prices of commodities, giving ample opportunity to wholesalers and retailers to earn profit at will.

Lack of proper check on the prices of edible articles has resulted in its regular hike which has become a matter of real worry for commoners. They said the mutton was being sold in the market at Rs200 per kg while beef at Rs100 per kg. Similarly, the prices of pulses were also increasing day by day. They urged the DCO to call meetings of the price control committee regularly to check the price hike.
