RAWALPINDI, March 23: Necessary steps are being taken to provide better postal services to the people, said federal secretary communication Iftikhar Rashid during a visit to the Rawalpindi General Post Office (GPO).

Briefing the secretary, director-general Post Offices Maj-Gen Agha Masood Hassan said the working of the GPO had been computerised and thousands of families and pensioners were made payments in minutes through the new system.

The computerised system, especially the pension-releasing sections, would soon be extended to Saving Bank and GPOs of Jhelum and Chakwal. Similar system would be introduced in all GPOs throughout the country in stages.

He said the medical centre established for employees had specialist doctors, a laboratory, X-ray, ECG, ultrasound machines and all other state-of-the-art facilities.
