DADU, March 15: A joint team of the Phulelli police and the Anti-Car Lifting Cell on Sunday night arrested the SHO, Thariri Mohabbat police station, and the official in charge, Dadu Sugar Mills police post, on the charge of stealing machinery of the mill.

The team raided Thariri Mohabbat and Piaro Goth police stations and arrested SHO sub-inspector Ali Akbar Panhwar and ASI Nabi Bux Solangi in the theft case of machinery, worth Rs30 million, and electrical instruments, worth Rs8 million.

The general manager of the sugar mill, Mohammad Moosa Dasti, had lodged an FIR at the Rukkan police station two months back. However, no one had been nominated in the FIR.

SI Panhwar was the SHO, Rukkan police station, and Mr Solangi was the in charge of the Piaro Goth police post when the theft incident took place. The then RPO of Hyderabad transferred the case from Rukkan to the Phulelli police and the joint team was constituted to investigate the case.

The arrested police officials were produced in the court of the first civil judge of Dadu on Monday who remanded them for three days. Phulelli TPO Qamar Raza Jiskani said investigation was going on against the two policemen and on completion of the inquiry, another FIR would be registered against them.

Talking to this correspondent, the arrested SI claimed that he had arrested the real culprits in the case in a raid in the Khairpur district. He said the accused, Lal Khan Korai, was released as his relatives were in the police department. Meanwhile, Dadu DPO Ali Akbar Bhangwar suspended the SI and the ASI.
