BAHAWALPUR, March 4: Several localities remained without electricity for over six hours on the second consecutive day on Thursday. The electricity supply was disrupted due to some fault in the main transformer of the Bahawalpur grid station. Consumers of Satellite Town and its adjacent about 20 residential colonies were hard hit by the breakdown.

Earlier on Wednesday, thickly populated areas in the city were also affected due to over 10 hours of the power breakdown. According to Mepco sources, the power breakdown was caused due to some fault in the main transformer. They said the load of number of localities was transferred to nearby grid stations of Baghdadul Jadid, Lodhran and Mari Sheikh Shajra.

Meanwhile, the Mepco team could not rectify the fault in the main transformer till the filing of this report late on Thursday night. It was learnt that a team of technicians had been summoned from Lahore to rectify the fault which was expected to reach here on Friday (today).

It is feared that more such power breakdowns might hit the residential localities on Friday for several hours till either the fault was rectified or the main transformer of the Bahawalpur grid station was replaced, which could take many days.

KILLED: One Tufail was killed and Liaquat sustained injuries on Thursday in a collision between a motorcycle rickshaw and a bike near Yazman. Police have registered a case.
