GUJRANWALA, Jan 29: The Anti-Terrorism Court No 1 restrained former DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal, Sialkot former DPO Amjad Javed Saleemi, Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar Husain and about a dozen other officials of the Elite Force from going abroad during the jail case proceedings and reissued warrants for their arrest on Thursday.

Reports said the public prosecutor and complainant's counsel pleaded that the accused could move to any foreign country and appealed to court that they should be restrained from doing so.

The court also re-issued warrants for their arrest when a police official told the court that he could not comply with the orders due to unavailability of police officers.

The former medical superintendent of Sialkot civil hospital, Dr Firdaus, and Dr Sajid appeared before judge Syed Iftikhar Husain Shah, who directed them to deposit surety bonds worth Rs20,000 each as court had issued warrants for their arrest. The court adjourned the hearing till Feb 16.

DBA PROTEST: The District Bar Association protested alleged humiliation of their colleagues by traffic police ASI and other police officials by taking out procession and demanded that others policemen involved in the incident should also be arrested.

They also demanded here on Thursday that ASI Zahoor Husain be terminated from service and chargesheet against him be submitted in court within a fortnight.

During a meeting presided over by Bar President Saifullah Cheema, the lawyers passed a resolution against the police. Later, they took our a procession and besieged the DPO's office and chanted slogans against him. The lawyers said they would continue their strike till the acceptance of their demand. They also convened bar meeting for today (Friday).
