SWABI, Jan 16: Poppy growers of the Gadoon region have voluntarily started destroying their crops under police supervision.

Sources said on Friday that the operation launched last week was in full swing. They said it would continue till the destruction of poppy in Gadoon and other remote areas.

On Friday police teams went to Cutgram, Dalurari and its suburbs to supervise the operation. Sources said over 200 kanals had been cleared of poppy crop.

In Utla, the local government representatives were cooperating with the police and cases registered against some growers would be withdrawn after assurances made by the tribal elders, they said.

Sources said that after Gandaf and Utla, the operation would be extended to the remote areas of Naranji. They said poppy over 60 kanals had been uprooted in Chani and Mangalchai areas. They said the crop over 80 kanals had been destroyed in Sirgohai Payyan.
