ATTOCK, Feb 8: Attock experienced a comparatively lower crime rate in January, but the 10 robbery/theft incidents reported during the month still left a question mark over the operational effectiveness of the police.
The costliest strike came when three robbers heisted around Rs600,000 from the Habib Bank’s branch in Basia village on January 27 allegedly due to the negligence of the bank’s management.
In other cases, the criminals raided houses and businesses and made off with hundreds of thousands of rupees and other valuables as well as vehicles.
The police claimed that they were making “hectic efforts” to nab the perpetrators, but so far they had met little success.
The robbery victims and critics said the police needed to revitalise their investigation department to find clues to the criminals.
However, more importantly the police must “pull their socks up” to maintain law and order, and check crime before it takes place, they added.
Driver booked
Police have registered a case against a coach driver for allegedly threatening a senior patrolling officer of National Highways and Motorway Police with dire consequences. Tajdar Abbas lodged a complaint with the police that he challaned the driver of the coach (LET-1895) Bashir Khan at Burhan Interchange toll plaza on GT Road on Saturday evening for speeding. However, the driver not only refused to receive the challan slip but also allegedly threatened him with dire consequences.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Nasrullah of Dabula village reported to Pindigheb police that Sami, Ehsan, Mohammad Tariq and an unidentified man attacked him after he exchanged hard words with the accused over a minor dispute a few days back.
The police have registered a case against the accused.
