LAHORE, Aug 22: NWFP Whites inflicted a 3-1 defeat on KESC while in the second match Islamabad defeated Balochistan Colour by the identical margin 3-1 on the second day of Junior U-20 National Hockey Championship at the National Hockey Stadium here on Friday.

In the first match, KESC led 1-0 at half time from Sajid’s field goal in the 6th minute. But NWFP Whites came back strongly in the second period firing in three goals to ensure victory. Abdul Samad struck twice in the 43rd and 51st minute while Haroon-ur-Rashid completed the tally in the 58th minute. Both the team got 4 penalty corners each.

In the second match, Islamabad defeated Balochistan Colour 3-1 after being locked 1-1 at half time. Balochistan took the lead in the 30th minute through Murad Ali but Islamabad restored parity in the 32nd minute from Azhar-ul-Islam’s field goal. Islamabad added two more field goals from Sohail and Ismatullah in the 55th and 56th minute respectively. Balochistan earned a plethora of 12 penalty corners but failed to score on any while Islamabad got three.

In the afternoon session, Pakistan Police edged Punjab White out 1-0 in a well contested encounter. From Police’s surfeit of eleven penalty corners Asif Baig fired in the 16th minute of the first half which turned out to be the match winner albeit the second period went scoreless. Punjab had no none to blame but them selves as they squandered away also eleven penalty corners.

In the other match, Pakistan Army swamped NWFP Colours 12-0. The army men led 6-0 at half time. Kashif Rafique performed hat-trick with three goals, Waqas Butt netted twice, Aamir Sohail (2), Shahid Saleem (2), while Muhammad Waqas (2) and Muhammad Ramzan scored one goal.

In another match, Pakistan Railway defeated Sindh White 4-2. Railway led 3-0 at half time. Khurram Shahzad scored 2 goals while Akbar Ali also netted 2 goals. From Sindh, Suleman struck twice late in the second half. Railway got 4 penalty corners while Sindh got 3.

In the last match of the day, Zeeshan fired in a hat-trick as Navy trounced Punjab Colour 6-0. Navy led 3-0 at half time. Rashid Ahmed, Muhammad Rashid and Muhammad Haroon scored one goal each. Navy earned 4 penalty corners and Punjab got three.
