12 killed in accident near Daska

SIALKOT, July 17: At least 12 people, most of them factory workers, were killed and 15 others were injured when an overloaded bus collided with a van in front of the Motra police station on the Daska-Sialkot road on Thursday.

The van was taking factory workers to Sialkot from Gojra.

Those killed in the accident include Ashfaq Masih of Daska, Mohammad Amir of Gojra, Mohammad Ashfaq of Glotiyan, Shehzad Sabir of Dhamonkey, Iftikhar Ahmad, Ejaz Ahmad, Mohammed Jamil and driver of the van Adnan Awan.

The injured, among them a woman, were taken to hospitals in Daska, Sialkot and Gujranwala.

Sialkot district police chief Mohammad Ameen said the driver of Faisalabad-bound bus, Mohammad Ejaz, and conductor Abdul Rasheed had been arrested and a case had been registered.

Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif expressed concern over the loss of lives and asked the district administration to hold an inquiry and submit report to him within

24 hours.
