PESHAWAR, April 28: Top-seed Mansoor Zaman of the PAF took a flying start in the NWFP All-Pakistan National squash tournament by defeating Khalid Atlas of the NWFP at the PAF Hashim Khan Squash Complex here on Monday.

The tournament carries a purse of Rs100,000.

Left-handed Mansoor overpowered Khalid 11-2, 11-4, 11-2 in 16 minutes.

In the second match, Waqar Mehboob of the PAF defeated Kashif Khan of Sindh 11-9, 11-5, 11-0 in 17 minutes.

Arshad Iqbal Barki of the NWFP faced tough resistance against Wasim Shad of the NWFP. He, however, beat Wasim 11-3, 10-11, 11-10, 11-5 in 50 minutes.

Majid Khan of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) overcame Mamoon Rashid of Wapda 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 in 22 minutes.

In the last match of the day, Amjad Khan defeated Alamzeb Junior, both belong to the CAA, 11-8, 11-10, 8-11, 11-7 in 43 minutes.

Earlier, four players booked their places in the main round of 12 players by winning their respective matches.
