Sameer excels in ranking tennis

KARACHI, March 15: Sameer Tayyab conjured up twin victories on the opening day of the third Sindh ranking tennis tournament which got underway at the Beach View Club on Saturday.

He eased to a comfortable 6-1, 6-0 victory over Naveed Anjum in the juniors U-17 singles while in boys U-15 singles his opponent Ali Khannani retired after losing the opener 0-6.

Juniors U-17 singles first round: Sameer Tayyab bt Naveed Anjum 6-1, 6-0; Uzair Abdul Qadir bt M. Ali Khannani 6-1, 6-3; Nameer Shamsi bt Rahmat Ali 6-4, 6-1; Sikander Hayat bt Ahmed Javed 6-0, 6-3; Bilal Shariff bt Adil Tanoli 6-0, 6-0.

Boys U-15 singles first round: Sameer Tayyab bt M. Ali Khannani 6-0, retd.

Boys U-9 singles pro-set: M. Raza Sawani bt Aasim Allawala 8-4.

Sunday’s fixtures:

Boys U-15 singles 9.00am; juniors U-17 singles 12.00noon; boys U-13 singles 1.00pm; boys U-9 singles 2.30pm.
