KARACHI, March 5: Two highly talented players Nasir Mushtaq and Nameer Shamsi were sent packing by unfancied players in the men’s and juniors’ singles of the second Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club on Wednesday.

Nasir, a junior international and fourth seed, suffered 1-6, 6-7 (5) defeat at the hands of new find Asfand Rauf to make an unceremonious exit in the men’s singles quarter-finals.

Asfand, who the other day gave a lesson to Zuhair Raza by inflicting a 6-3, 6-3 defeat is drawn to meet top seed and Davis Cupper Jalil Khan in the pre-final.

Similarly, Nameer Shamsi who returned home from Malaysia the other day was unlucky to lose to Bilal Sharif 1-6, 6-2, 2-0 (retd) in juniors U-17 pre quarter-finals. Earlier, he got a first round bye against Ibrahim Tawwab.

Juniors U-17 singles (Pre quarter-finals):

Rahmat Ali bt Farhan Mustafa 6-1, 5-7, 6-1; S. Zuhair Raza bt Sameer Tayyab 6-0, 6-0; Mustafa Zaidi bt Mustafa Tariq 6-1, 6-1; Bilal Sharif bt Nameer Shamsi 1-6, 6-2, 2-0 (rtd).

Juniors U-17 singles (quarter-final):

Omer Shahid bt Omer Osman 6-4, 6-1.

Boys U-13 singles pro-set (first round):

Yasir Rasool bt Saad Pervez 8-4.

Boys/girls U-11 singles pro-set:

Maheen Dada bt M. Khizer Imran 8-4.

Boys U-9 singles pro-set:

Saad Rasool bt Omair Tariq 8-3.
