KHAIRPUR, March 2: Mukh-tiar Lashari, who was injured when some people fired on a mourning procession on Friday evening, died in Chandka Medical College Hospital Larka-na on Saturday.
His body was brought to Luqman town and was laid to rest after funeral prayers.
A shutterdown strike was observed as all markets and trade centres of Khairpur city were closed after the news of his death reached the town. People gathered in Luqman town termed the incident an example of inefficiency of the district administration.
People staged demonstration on Saida Goth road and set ablaze tyres.
District administration deployed police and Rangers at various places in the city to avert any trouble.
Meanwhile, two separate FIRs were lodged with B-Section police on Saturday night.
A complainant, Syed Hajan Shah, lodged an FIR against 25 people, including Abdul Sattar, Safiullah, Naeem, Umer Hayat, Nisar Memon, Attaullah Mughal, Mohammad Ibrahim and others.
Another FIR was lodged on the complaint of Noor Ali against 40 nominated and 100 unidentified people.
Nadeem, Asghar, Mohammad Ali, Rizwan, Khadim Hussain, Nisar, Jawad Ali and others have been nominated in the FIR.
FAKE CASES: Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) backed Khairpur District Nazim Niaz Hussain Shah, PML-F district president Sharfuddin Rajpar and other office-bearers held a meeting at the PML-F house here on Saturday.
Later, they told reporters that the police were victimising PML-F activists and office-bearers in the district by registering fake cases against them.
They said a PML-F delegation under the leadership of zila nazim Khairpur would meet the Sindh chief secretary and the home secretary to inform them about the victimisation and demanded a judicial inquiry into the registration of cases against PML-F leaders and activists.
