LARKANA, Jan 1: After five days of violence following the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto, normality returned to Larkana and Qambar-Shahdadkot districts on Tuesday with the arrest of 27 people and registration of cases against more that 10,000 unidentified people in both districts for allegedly damaging public and private properties during riots.

Two under trial prisoners viz, Mumtaz Kalhoro and Nisar Gopang, wanted in murder and robbery cases, surrendered before the sessions court Qambar on Tuesday.

They had escaped from Qambar and Warah sub-jail on Dec 28 along with 43 prisoners.

In Qambar police arrested 17 men, including Wazeer Shaikh and Manzoor Gopang, on the charges of causing damages to banks and private properties while in Shahdadkot cases against more than 5,000 people were registered out of which only 10 were arrested.

A case had been registered by police head constable Shahnawaz with Shahdadkot police station against 25 people, including Saleemullah Lashari, PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) candidate contesting for PS-40, were nominated for storming the police station and causing damages.

Munawar Mangi, Mumtaz Soomro, Amanullah Magsi, Bago Kharani, Naveed Magsi, Abdi Ali Kamboh and others were also arrested.

Police in this case had arrested 10 people, including Munawar Mangi nominated in the FIR along with nine people Mithal Lashari, Nadir Jkharo, Abdullah Babbar and others.

In Larkana 30 cases were registered in eight police stations against more than 9,000 people for damaging public and private properties.

A case of burning a coaster of Haji Altaf Hussain Unnar, former Sindh minister, was registered with Dari police station against Mshooque Jatoi of PPP contesting for PS-35 seat, against the minister and two councillors of Awam Dost Panel Haroon Hulio, Amanat Ali Khokhar.

Sources said the Market police had arrested three watchmen of the district council hall and recovered three units of spilt air conditioners and stabilisers from their houses on Monday.

Police raided village Hamzo Jatoi and picked up Khalil Jatoi after recovering five guns and four pistols from their possession, which were looted from the arms shops in Larkana.

In Qambar, Mohammed Mithal Chandio died of shock after the burning of National Bank of Pakistan’s Qambar branch where he had deposited Rs800,000, reports from Qambar reaching here said on Tuesday.

Lawyers offered prayer on Tuesday after boycotting the court proceedings here.

Mohammad Ashique Dhamraho led the prayer while black flag was hoisted on the office of district bar association to mourn the death of Benazir Bhutto, said Abdul Rasheed Shah, vice-president of district bar association.

Later, a delegation of 60 lawyers went to Naudero and offered condolence to Asif Zardari and visited Garhi Khuda Bux Bhutto and laid floral wreaths on the grave of Benazir Bhutto.

In Ratodero, the PPP held a meeting and condemning the target killing of their leader called for probe by UN body. It also reposed confidence in the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari.
