SHIKARPUR, Dec 14: Former defence minister and Pakistan People’s Party candidate for NA-202 (Shikarpur-I), Aftab Shaban Mirani, says the party chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto rejects the rule of the gun as she has strong belief in democratic system.

Mirani said at a corner meeting in Memon Mohalla late on Thursday night that she wanted to come to power through elections to serve people without any discrimination.

He said that PPP was the only national party which enjoyed support of people belonging to every community and class. “We have to struggle under the leadership of Ms Bhutto, who is a brave and sincere leader, for the restoration of democratic process derailed by the opportunist and the selfish rulers,” he said.

He accused the previous government of doing nothing for the people and damaging the constitutional and democratic values as well as violating the sanctity of Chador and Chardeewari.

Mirani said that PPP had obtained majority votes in 2002 general elections despite massive rigging still the party was not invited to form the government at the centre as well as in the provinces.

He expressed the hope that Benazir would become prime minister for the third time after achieving victory in elections.

The former leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that the party leadership was determined to improve the country’s economy and raise the standard of the life of common man after coming into power.

Khuhro said that he had brought a message from Benazir Bhutto for the people that no one would remain jobless and the educated would be given unemployment allowances till they were provided jobs after the party came to power.
