THATTA, Dec 2: An inquiry team has been constituted to probe into the manhandling of a foreign scholar, Florence alias Farida Boryak, by the SP, investigation, Thatta, during her brief stay in Thatta recently.

On the request of the embassies of France and Turkey whose dual nationality the scholar holds, Hyderabad RPO Fayaz Ahmed Laghari has constituted the inquiry team and directed SP, investigation, Thatta, Shoukat Shahani, Manager, Auqaf, Nawaz Pathan, guide of the scholar Wazir Qureshi and Thatta SHO Irfan Shah to appear before the inquiry team here on Monday.

In September, Ms Boryak was robbed of her belongings and research papers during her stay at the shrine of Abdullah Shah Ashabi in connection with her research on Sufism and Buddhism in the subcontinent

She approached the Thatta police and was brought to the local CIA centre where she was beaten by the SP investigation in the presence of policemen, journalists and the guide.

Wazir Qureshi has recently filed a petition in the district and session court to seek protection as, according to him, he has been receiving threats after the incident.
