Eid tomorrow, in most of NWFP today

ISLAMABAD, Oct 12: The central moon sighting committee on Friday announced that Shawwal moon was not sighted in any part of the country and Eidul Fitr would be celebrated on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, committee chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman said no authentic evidence of moon sighting had been received from any part of the country.—APP

According to our Peshawar bureau, Eid will be celebrated in most parts of the NWFP and Fata on Saturday after various unofficial local committees announced the sighting of Shawwal moon on Friday night.

A local committee headed by Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai at the Masjid Qasim Ali Khan announced that Eid would be celebrated in the city on Saturday. The committee received 21 witnesses about the sighting of moon. Local committees in Swabi, Mardan, Hangu and Charsadda also announced Eid on Saturday. People in most parts of the NWFP and Fata had started fasting a day earlier than other provinces.

Swabi District Nazim Shahram Khan said that the district Ruet-i-Hilal Committee had received eight witnesses who claimed the sighting of Shawwal moon. He said that people of the district had already completed 30 days of fasting.

People in some villages of Mardan, Swabi and other districts of the NWFP and parts of Fata celebrated the festival on Friday. Afghan refugees living in the NWFP and Fata also celebrated Eid on Friday.

In Kohat, local ulema announced that Shawwal moon was sighted. However, a majority of people in the district decided to celebrate the festival on Sunday.

Agencies add: Gaza Strip celebrated Eidul Fitr on Friday.

In Indonesia, a number of ministers celebrated Eid on Friday, a day ahead of the government’s designated day.
