ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday called for maintaining a stable political environment for continuity and sustainability of development policies pursued by the government.

He was speaking at a ceremony held at the Aiwan-i-Sadr for launching the Vision 2030.

The vision is a roadmap for future development in key areas of national importance and envisages a developed, industrialised, just and prosperous Pakistan through rapid and sustainable development.

The ceremony was attended by federal ministers, lawmakers, governors, chief ministers, federal secretaries, diplomats and senior government officials.

The president called for a balanced political approach to allow the government coming through a fair and transparent election to continue to work for five years and focus on its plans and achieve objectives.

He said it was extremely important that “we develop national consensus on all issues, challenges and threats. We have to evolve political reconciliation to face these challenges and to ensure good governance.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that the Vision 2030 would guide the nation to achieve the goals of economic development and social justice to make the country prosperous, dynamic and a developed state.

The prime minister said key features of the Vision 2030 were continuity of policies and a resolve for reforms to face challenges of tomorrow.

He said the Vision 2030 sought to mobilise collective synergies of the people by building upon achievements of past eight years in all walks of life. He said it envisaged a developed, industrialised, just and prosperous Pakistan through rapid and sustainable development in a resource-constrained economy by deploying knowledge inputs.—APP
