Benazir hails decision

NEW YORK, Aug 9: PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto welcomed on Thursday President Gen Pervez Musharraf's decision not to impose emergency in the country. “It's a good decision,” Ms Bhutto said, while talking to reporters in New York. She said there were reports on Wednesday that the president would impose emergency and such reports were disturbing, adding that she was happy that the government had decided against the move. “Today’s announcement that the government is not taking such a step is a positive development,” she said.

She said her party would continue its negotiations with the government on the restoration of democracy. “We want holding of free and fair elections in the country.”—Correspondent
