KARACHI, July 24: Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, retired judge of the Supreme Court, on Monday administered the oath of office to newly elected office-bearers of the Pakistan Herald Workers’ Union (PHWU) in a ceremony held here at a local hotel.

Addressing the participants of the ceremony, Justice Shah demanded that the authorities concerned implement the wage award immediately for the betterment of workers and owners of the press industry.

Congratulating the newly elected office-bearers, he said that the press was universally recognised as one of the main pillars of the state. The duty of journalists was to portray the facts of the circumstances prevailing in society without any prejudice, he added.

Earlier, Shafiuddin Ashraf, Secretary of the union, presented the welcome address.
