DADU, July 15: A fresh spell of rain and floodwater coming from Balochistan inundated 20 more villages and hundreds of acres of land between the main Nara valley (MNV) drain and the flood protective (FP) bund in Khairpur Nathan Shah and Johi talukas.

The floodwater is increasing pressure on the western embankment of Johi branch.Hundreds of armed men reached the Johi branch embankment at Kari Mori and did not allow officials of the irrigation department and Wapda to make a cut in the branch to drain out water towards the Matheen Phulji area.

Local chieftain Sardar Datal Khan Jamali, Sindh Nation Front leader Abdul Nabi Jamali and PML leaders Mir Mohammad and Ali Sher Chandio led the armed men.

They said that any cut in the Johi branch would inundate hundreds of acres of land and houses.

They said that water from Balochistan had already inundated 10 more villages in Sarwaro union council of Kachho area.

Heavy rains in the Kachho area which started on Sunday evening further aggravated the situation.

Meanwhile, federal Minister for Water and Power Liaquat Ali Jatoi said that Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz had provided 36,000 packets of relief goods and 6,000 water coolers for Dadu.

Addressing a press conference, he said that floodwaters had always been drained out between the MNV drain and the FP bund.

He said that the flood had inundated 46 villages in Khairpur Nathan Shah taluka and 51 in Mehar taluka.

The minister said that there was no access to Faridabad as all the roads had been washed away and the alternative route of Mian Naseer Mohammad Road was being restored.
