PCC captures tennis title

LAHORE, March 4: Punjab Commerce College (PCC) beat Teaching Department 2-1 to win the Punjab University Inter-collegiate tennis championship Monday.

Afnan faced no difficulty in defeating Idris Hayat (PUTD) in straight sets at 6-2, 6-4. However, Haris brought the PUTD in the tie by claiming his singles match against Shafan in straight sets at 6-4, 6-4. In the deciding doubles match, Afnan and Shafan beat the PUTD pair of Haris and Idris 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier in semi-finals, PCC defeated Government College, Faisalabad and PUTD beat King Edward Medical College (KEMC) in two straight matches, each to qualify for the final.

THE RESULTS WERE:

FIRST SEMI-FINAL: PCC vs G. C. Faisalabad: Afnan beat Mohammad Shahid 6-4, 6-4. Shafan beat Sajid Javed 6-3, 6-4.

SECOND SEMI-FINAL: PUTD vs KEMC: Haris Naeem beat Omer Salahuddin 6-2, 6-3. Pervez Hasan beat Ammar Sarwar 6-3, 6-2.
