KHAIRPUR, May 20: A large demonstration was staged outside the Pir-jo-Goth Press Cub on Sunday to protest against the Ahmedpur police force’s failure to arrest men nominated in a murder case.

According to Mohammad Nawaz Taggar, Gulsher Taggar was killed on May 16 near Mang Taggar village. An FIR against three persons was lodged with the Ahmedpur police but no arrest had been made. Meanwhile, he said, the accused were issuing threats to the victim’s family.

In Sobhodero, another group of people led by Tasleem Ahmed Larik staged a protest demonstration against the Sobhodero police.

Alleging that police personnel have been raiding their houses and harassing men and women of their community, the protesters vowed to continue their protest till they were shielded from police excesses.

BODY FOUND: The body of an unidentified man was found in Mirwah canal near Khaki Shah bridge on Sunday. The corpse’s face bore marks of severe torture and it is possible that he was murdered.

The body was taken into police custody and sent to the Civil Hospital, Khairpur. After post-mortem, it was handed over to social worker Abdul Wahid Pathan who buried it in a local graveyard.
