DADU, May 15: Over 130 families of Mahi Otho village, Sehwan taluka, whose huts were reduced to ashes as a result of massive fire late on Monday night, were living under open sky awaiting government's assistance.A villager, Waris Otho, told journalists that out of 300, 130 houses were burnt and owing to late arrival of fire brigade from Taluka Municipal Administration, Sehwan, the flames of the fire could not be brought under control.

Others, including Rab Dino, Ghulamoon, Gul Sher, Soomar, Urs, Naseer, Yousuf and Badshah called for their rehabilitation by the government.

The District Naib Nazim of Jamshoro, Abdul Hameed Buledi, Taluka Nazim Sehwan, Sardar Sikandar Rahupoto and Taluka Naib Nazim Sehwan, Ali Sher Lashari, visited the affected villagers and assured them of rehabilitation.

The Jamshoro district government announced Rs2.5 million for the rehabilitation of the affected villagers, Rs50,000 for the dead and Rs25,000 for the injured.

Mr Buledi said that Mukhtiarkar of Sehwan Sharif was directed to submit a detailed report to the office of district nazim and the district council so that arrangements for their rehabilitation could be made.

He said the district government would recommend compensation to heirs of Saeeda 5, daughter of Dodo Otho, who during the fire while expenses of treatment of injured would be borne by the government.

He appealed to the Sindh government to announce a package for the affected villagers.

DROWNED: Two children drowned at separate places of lower Noor Wah and Khudawah in Sehwan and Khairpur Nathan Shah talukas on Wednesday.

Ghulam Abbas 7, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khoso, drowned in lower Noor Wah in Ladho Gadhi Village as he was taking a bath with his brother. His body was fished out after an hour.

Afsana 5, daughter of Hameed Leghari, drowned in the Khudawah when she lost her balance while crossing the Wah, 4 kilometres off Khairpur Nathan Shah town.

SUICIDE: A young girl Amina 25, daughter of Mohammad Mallah, committed suicide by taking pesticide over domestic problems in Dadu on Tuesday night.
