KARACHI, May 7: The Provincial Excise and Taxation department will launch a motor vehicle tax (MVT) recovery drive from May 14.

The drive will be launched by special teams under the supervision of excise officials who will scrutinize the vehicles’ documents at 13 different spots in the city.

This announcement was made here by Provincial Excise and Taxation Minister Shabir Ahmed Qaimkhani. He said defaulting vehicle owners would also have to pay heavy penalties and their vehicles would be impounded and returned back after payment of taxes and penalty.

The minister said the purpose of the campaign was not to harass the people, but to enforce law which was the responsibility of every department. He urged people to clear their pending dues and make their update papers.

The minister also advised the owners of the vehicles with AFR-2006/07 to register their vehicles with the excise department and not to drive vehicles with illegal number plates.
