ANKARA, April 29: President Pervez Musharraf and Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived here on Sunday to discuss the Pakistan-Afghanistan relationship, especially the cooperation of the two countries in the fight against terror, at their crucial meeting on Monday.

After the arrival of the two leaders, Turkish President Ahmed Necdet Sezer held an informal meeting at the Presidential Palace on Sunday to discuss the Pakistan-Afghanistan relationship in the context of their efforts to fight terror.

The Turkish president also hosted a banquet in honour of president Musharraf and president Karzai.

When president Musharraf arrived, the Turkish president received him at the Presidential Palace and embraced the Pakistani leader.

Gen Musharraf, who arrived here on the last leg of his 4-nation tour, will also hold talks with Turkish president and

the prime minister during his stay in Turkey.

There will be two rounds of talks between president Musharraf and president Karzai on Monday, followed by a joint press conference in the presence of the Turkish prime minister.

The Turkish government is playing the role of a mediator and has facilitated a meeting between leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan to resolve their differences.

Earlier, on his arrival at the Ankara airport, president Musharraf was accorded a warm welcome and received by top-ranking officials of the Turkish government and Pakistan Ambassador to Turkey Iftikhar Hussain Shah.

The president is accompanied by Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal, Education Minister Javed Ashraf Qazi, Railways Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and Minister of State for Information Tariq Azeem during the visit.—APP
