GUJRANWALA, March 26: Workers of ARD and other opposition parties held protest rallies in a number of district headquarters while lawyers boycotted courts.

In Gujranwala, police reportedly detained 150 leaders and workers after a baton-charge from Sheranwala Bagh.

They were detained in Model Town and other police stations.

Later, other activists took out a rally on the GT Road which started from started from Sheranwala Bagh and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk.

DIG (Operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti claimed that the police neither made any arrest nor it canned any protester.

SARGODHA: Over a dozen political leaders and lawyers were arrested during a police crackdown to prevent them joining the opposition protest.

Advocates Sajjad Haider Gondal and Muhammad Arshad, a nazim and PPP activist, were among those arrested and manhandled by police.

To condemn the police action, the district bar gave a strike call for Tuesdsay (today).

The lawyers latter held a protest rally which was also participated by local political activists.

FAISALABAD: Former federal minister Abida Hussain, deputy opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Rana Sanaullah, MPA Rana Aftab Ahmed, Raja Riaz Ahmed and PPP district president Farooq Saeed led the rally which started from the Press Club.

MULTAN: Component parties of the ARD brought out a procession and also held a demonstration.

The rally started from Kutchery Chowk and terminated at the starting point after parading through city roads.

In Sahiwal, the Jamaat-i-Islami took out a protest procession from the district courts.

In Okara, police continued the crackdown and arrested more ARD workers. As a result the opposition could not take out a protest rally.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, the opposition rally started from Traffic Chowk.

In Mianwali, Police detained dozens of political leaders and workers on Sunday night and released them on Monday morning.

Due to the police crackdown, workers did not turn up for the protest rally. Lawyers on the other hand boycotted courts.

In Bahawalpur, opposition parties held a protest rally under the auspices of the ARD.

Lawyers in Ferozewala, Nankana Sahib, Sangla Hill and Sheikhupura stayed away from courts.

Ferozewala police arrested ARD leaders, including Ashraf Rasool, Rana Mubasher Ayub, Rana Shakoor and Syed Faryad Hussain, when they were on their way to Lahore to participate in the protest rally. Later, police released them at 6pm.
