QUETTA, March 15: The house of a senior Postal Life Insurance official in Samungli Housing Scheme was attacked with a hand-grenade and a powerful explosion took place near the office of the divisional superintendent of Railways here late on Thursday night.

Police said some people hurled the hand-grenade on the house of Qurban Ali Marri, Assistant Director of Postal Life Insurance. The grenade exploded near the main gate of the house, damaging a portion of it. Windowpanes of some nearby houses were smashed.

The explosion near the office of the divisional superintendent of Railways on Zarghoon Road was caused by a locally-made device, SP City Qazi Wahid said.

Meanwhil, the provincial capital was rocked when a rocket exploded near a house in the Brewery area on Thursday night.

The rocket, fired from an unknown place, landed and exploded near the house of one Saeed Khan, causing panic among the people of the area. A wall of the house was damaged while windowpanes of nearby houses were smashed.

A case was registered against unknown assailants and investigation was in progress.
