KARACHI, March 8: Speakers at a seminar to mark the International Women’s Day highlighted the women’s role and their struggle for their due rights in the society.

The seminar, organised by the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology was attended by representatives from various political parities and leading journalists.

Along with students and teachers from other departments of the varsity the dean faculty of Arts, Federal Urdu University, Rana Hilal, the chairman of the Department of Mass Communication, Federal Urdu University, Tauseef Ahmed Khan, Lecturer Masroor Khanum and Syeda Naqvi participated in the seminar.

Fouzia Wahab, member of National Assembly said that our society was denying women of their public role. Family is the basic unit of our society and the women are solely caring and protecting it since ages, she added saying that this is the very reason that a male needs to remarry soon after his female partner dies.

Ms Wahab was of the view that men of our society were not ready to face the talents of independent and free women. It is this very reason that they deny public role to the women, she added.

Speaking on the occasion, Tauseef Ahmed Khan said that the fight for women's right should not be taken as a move against the rights of men. It should be linked with the progress of democratic values in the society; he added urging the government to take basic human rights, health and education as the top priority.
