KARACHI, Feb 22: The city government has formed an eight- member committee to chalk out a plan to improve the sewerage and drainage system of the Lines Area Re-development Plan (LARP).

The terms and reference of the committee is to study, formulate a comprehensive plan to cater to the immediate and future requirements of Lines Area’s drainage and sewerage system.

The committee has also been assigned the task of preparing cost estimates of the Lines Area’s sewerage and drainage plan. The project will be funded under the Khushhal Pakistan Programme (KPP).

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting with DCO Karachi Shafiqur Rehman Paracha in the chair. The meeting was attended by Jut Land Line Union Council Nazim Mehfoozun Nabi Khan; KWSB chief engineer (Sewerage) Suleman Chandio; LARP’s project director R. B. Phulpoto; Jamshed Town’s municipal officer A.H. Memon; district officer for KPP, Nisar Saryo, and others.

The committee has been asked to hold its meeting on a day-to- day basis so that a comprehensive plan is prepared and implemented on war-footing.

Earlier, The Jut Land UC Nazim informed the meeting that Lines Area’s sewerage and sanitary condition which was already in poor condition had aggravated following the federal government’s central health establishment arbitrarily withdrew 60 sanitary workers, one refuse-collection van and other necessary equipment from the area a few years ago.
