KOHAT, March 2: In a queer development, the police called three wanted criminals involved in cases of attempt to murder and extortion and made them clean a police station and weed its lawns.

The ASP, headquarters, Vaqas Ahmed, directed the staff of the Janglekhel police station to summon Patho Pir, Dilshu and Yousuf, who were either released after striking deals with their victims or are on bail in criminal cases.

They came in their Pajero jeeps accompanied by their guards, but they found the situation embarrassing when they were asked to enter the police station alone. Later, they were made to clean the entire police station, including its offices and ground, under the supervision of the ASP.

The police had also invited the general public to come to the police station and see them cleaning the place, so that the sight could remove the fear of criminals from their hearts. However, nobody turned up.

However, the people especially the representative of the business community, central president of the bazaar association, Mohammad Abid praised the police for checking crimes, and extortion going on in the area for the last many years.

OUTLAWS HELD: The police arrested 46 criminals, five of them fugitives, in a crackdown against anti-social elements on Friday.

The drive was launched on the directives of the district police officer, Kohat, Khalid Mahmood, during which police parties raided various areas and arrested five accused wanted in murder, attempt to murder, and trafficking cases.

The accused were identified as Asghar Khan of Shekhan, Wajid Ali Shah of Maosam Banda, Amjid Gul of Janglekhel, Arshad of Tappi, and Hilal Khan of Jarma.

The police seized five Kalashnikovs, four rifles, 15 pistols, 250 cartridges, 50 blueprints, and six-and-a-half kilogram of hashish.

They have been handed over to the Kohat Bureau of Investigation after registration of cases in the respective police stations, a press release issued here on Friday said.
