LAHORE, Jan 31: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has failed to get its new constitution approved from the Patron-in-Chief, President Pervez Musharraf despite the passage of the Jan 31st deadline set for the same by Dr Nasim Ashraf last month.

The PCB chairman, soon after assuming the charge on Oct 6, 2006, had assured the media that the draft of the new constitution would be sent to the board’s patron in the next 45 days and the PCB will then implement it from Jan 1, 2007 after the approval.

However, the new draft remained pending with the federal law department for over a month and compelled Dr Nasim to set a new deadline of Jan 31 for the implementation of the constitution in December. "We are still awaiting the approved draft from the patron and as soon as we receive it, the steps will be taken to implement it," a PCB spokesman said on Wednesday. "I cannot comment on the actual status of the constitution but it is likely the chairman has some fresh information about it," he said.

The PCB chairman is currently in South Africa and is likely to return home on Feb 7. The PCB has been run on ad hoc basis for the past eight years.
