KHAIRPUR: Three booked for blasts

KHAIRPUR, Jan 18: The Faiz Ganj police have registered a case against three unidentified persons for damaging a gas pipeline by detonating explosive material. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of operation engineer, SSGC, Dor, Saleem Mustafa Shaikh, under section 3/4 of the Explosive Act and 427 of the PPC on Wednesday night.

The complainant stated in the FIR that due to explosions, a 30-foot portion of the pipeline was damaged in the desert area near Syed Akbar Shah village.

On Thursday, the police raided different villages in the area, including Kamal Bugti village, and took more than 10 men into custody for interrogation. Those picked up included More, Akbar Ali, Atta Hussain, Khan Mohammad Ranjho, Rahib and Ghulam Hyder. However, the police did not confirm that they had picked up the men.

ARREST URGED: Residents and journalists took out a procession from Khuhra to Gambat on Thursday, demanding arrest of the killers of a journalist, Makhdoom Mohammad Rafique.

The procession was led by Mansoor Ahmed Hashmi, son of Mr Rafique, the editor of a local daily, and the participants raised slogans against police failure to arrest the accused.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mansoor and others said that the police were not interested in arresting the accused though Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim during his recent visit to Khuhra had asked them to ensure early arrest of the accused.
