Kenyan tea prices firm

NAIROBI, Jan 3: Kenya tea prices generally rose at this week's auction as key markets bought strongly to satisfy their requirements after the market resumed following a seasonal break, traders said.

“Strong general demand was maintained for the 107,470 packages on offer for the first (auction) of the year,” Africa Tea Brokers (ATB) said in a market report.

The market took a break last month and buyers were forced to cover their positions in the two days of trading on Tuesday and Wednesday, a trader said.

Traders predicted prices would remain stable in the coming week as the market assessed the impact of heavy rains on output and quality.—Reuters
