SAHIWAL, Dec 30: The Multan electric power company (Mepco) is reportedly carrying out four-hour unscheduled loadshedding in urban and nine hours in rural areas, violating directions of the Wapda chairman.

Reports said the Wapda chief had directed one hour shutdown to cope with the power shortage. But the Mepco Sahiwal circle is suspending power supply twice for an hour in localities of Jahaz Ground, Scheme No II and III, Farid Town, Tariq Bin Ziad Colony, Nai Abadi, Mohallah Chishtian, Canal Colony, Officers Colony and other city areas during day. At night, these areas are facing power shutdown thrice for two and a half hours. On the other hand, rural areas are facing power suspension for nine hours - three hours during day and six at night. The same power shutdown schedule is followed in Chichawatni city and rural areas.

When contacted, the Mepco Sahiwal circle superintending engineer was not available for comments while his cell number was not responding.— Correspondent
